Religious Monuments

Lefkada has a large number of Byzantine Monuments of enormous historical and artistic value. They are churches and monasteries, which are scattered around the island and date back to 65 AD. until the 18th century. They are stone and tiled with impressive Baroque architectural elements and feature infinite charm, exquisite icons and impressive murals. They can easily be called small painting museums on the island. Some of them are:

The church of Agia Mavra, located inside the homonymous castle.

The temple of Pantokrator, which belongs to the descendants of the Valaoritis family and where there is also the tomb of the poet Aristotle Valaoritis, is located in the center of the market in the city of Lefkada.

The church of Agios Spiridonas, in the central square of the city.

The temple of St. Minas adjoining the temple of Pantocrator.

The church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary at Gyra, on a narrow strip of land that closes northwest of the Lefkada lagoon.
